How To: Cropped Denim For Work

Denim isn't just for casual Friday...

In case you missed it: denim is undergoing some mega updates this season. Hems are creeping into 3/4 territory, leg cuts are widening, fraying is returning and rips are disappearing. Dare I speak too soon, (she says, as Rihanna steps out in my 90s nemesis - low slung wide-legs) the new denim is a little more sophisticated and grown-up. Taking my cues from this sentiment, I thought a little workwear update was due.

Building a solid workwear wardrobe is kind of like writing Christmas cards - you really don't want spend your time doing it but once it's done, you're set for another year! As such, I'll endeavour to do some groundwork for you (click the headings to shop). Here's a round-up of my winning pieces for the working woman:

1. The Longline Blazer
This bad boy seems to appear in most of my wardrobe how-to's... what can I say, it's an essential for both office-dwellers and lady-bosses in every profession.

2. Cropped Denim
Cropped denim will instantly update your working wardrobe. Choose a timeless wash that is interchangeable with your current pants/trousers (I'm still struggling with that one, UK people!) which for most are black, navy or grey. You can't go wrong with Levi's.

3. Camisoles
In whatever colour your heart desires, this is a piece you can have fun with. Choose a loose-fitting silk for maximum comfort and tuck into high-waisted bottoms.

4. Fancy Flats
Every fashion girl rejoiced when flats became the new heels - are people still wearing stilettos to work? I mean, really, even Victoria Beckham has jumped off that bandwagon. I assume she now gets a lot more done because she's kicking mega ass. I rest my case.

5. Shirts, Shirts, Shirts
Ah, the humble blouse. It needs no introduction. However, for the love of god please let's all avoid those 'made for ladies' cuts (I'm looking at you, Target!) that curve in at the waist and are made from all sorts of delightful office-friendly colours... Depending on your work dress code you can also score major fashion points in the shirt department with new season pieces - one shoulder, ruffles, off-shoulder, embroidered. You name it, it's out there.

I'm wearing:
Blazer: Bardot // Jeans: Levi's // Ring: Pandora (a lovely gift from their recent blogger event) // Bag: Rebecca Minkoff // Shoes: New Look
