5 Things I Learned In 2016

Featuring advice from me, Dory, and Frank Underwood...

As I look back on the year that was, there are things I wish I did more of, people I wish I saw more, and goals I wish I'd conquered. That being said, people often forget that they are just that - people. Despite graduating with 2 bachelor degrees, quitting my job, and moving across the world to pursue my passions, sometimes it still doesn't feel like I'm where I want to be in life! But here we all are - another year beginning and new opportunities to seize. So without further ado, here's 5 things I learned in 2016...

1. As long as you're moving forward, you're heading in the right direction. Sometimes putting one foot in front of the other is all you can manage in tough times. So as Dory says, just keep swimming! There's always a brighter day on the horizon.

2. Do something you love. Do it well. Put it on the internet. And keep doing it better. The world is a scary place, but a wise friend once told me that there's always room in the universe for your ideas.

3. Reach out to people for guidance, collaborations, or simply to introduce yourself. Unashamedly and with confidence. You never know who's at the other end of an email, and those who respond may just end up changing your life.

4. People worth having in your life will support you, no matter what. Sometimes you have to make selfish decisions - and I mean that in the best sense of the word. Making choices that will get you where you want to be in life is no one else's responsibility but your own. Those who truly love you will understand, and will stand by you every step of the way.

5. If you don't like how the table is set, turn over the table. A little friendly advice from my political hero Frank Underwood - and a sentiment that I carry with me everywhere. I didn't like how my table was set and the path I was on, so I chose another one. A path less travelled. A more difficult path. But I know one day, that will make all the difference.
